It is not as entertaining as some other animated Disney films, or as thought-provoking as Finding Nemo, but those are two of the highest grossing movies this year. It is definitely not as funny as it could have been, but that is probably its biggest failing. Its main villain, the King of the crowds (which he aptly calls “Kong”), seems like a complete jerk, and the love interest for the heroine, a girl named Triton, seems like a distraction more than anything else. The Croods is not the most likable of films. The only other purpose is to increase internet traffic to a site: which would not help at all. There is even no real reason to pay attention to the crowds at all: the only purpose that could possibly exist is to provide a unique outlet for someone to make a joke.

The Croods – Are they extinct now? – The most likely answer is no. It’s unclear whether or not this is actually true or if it’s just an example of an over-used evil character. One movie character implied that the animals are warmbloods that can split apart their enemies. The Croods – Are they evil and will burn humans and eat them? – No one has been able to explain exactly what the Croods will do, other than it will be very unpleasant.
Or perhaps they escaped from some sort of animal refuge and became a nomadic tribe, preying on other tribes until they were displaced again by people. Some theories say that they were once friendly critters but lost their tails to a predator and became feral. The Croods – Are they some kind of hybrid animal-being that needs to be tamed by humans? – No one has yet been able to explain how the crowds became capable of communication. The only way the name “croods” could have come about is if there was really a huge websling of some sort resting on the ground in the third act of The Empire of The Croods. The name “crood” comes from the Old French word meaning “web,” so is clearly a misnomer. The Croods – Are they some kind of mutated spiders? – The crowds aren’t really spiders.
